Trauma & Healing

When past experiences keep showing up in your present — through flashbacks, constant hypervigilance, nightmares, emotional numbness, or intense reactions to everyday events — it can feel like the past is running your life. Trauma doesn’t always come from a single, obvious event. It can also develop through childhood adversity, repeated emotional or relational hurts, chronic stress, medical trauma, loss, or experiences that were minimized or not fully acknowledged at the time. Whatever the source, these experiences matter. They shape how you feel, how you relate to others, and how safe you feel in your body.

I provide trauma-informed, attachment focused therapy that prioritizes your safety, choice, and pacing. Together we’ll build stabilization skills, make sense of what keeps you stuck, and choose the approaches that support real healing, whether that looks like nervous-system regulation, EMDR, somatic work, parts work, or focused cognitive strategies. You don’t have to carry this alone.

Understanding Trauma and Its Effects

Trauma can come from a single event or repeated stresses, and its effects often show up in surprising, painful ways.

Trauma may show up as intrusive memories, flashbacks, nightmares, or a persistent sense of danger. You might find yourself on edge, easily startled, avoiding people or places that remind you of what happened, or feeling emotionally numb and disconnected. Some people experience sudden anger or unexpected panic, while others feel exhausted and “shut down.” These responses are your nervous system trying to protect you, not a sign of weakness. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed or confused by these reactions, but you do not have to work through them alone.

Even when trauma feels permanent, therapy can help by:

Identifying patterns

Together we’ll notice the triggers, bodily sensations, and situations that activate your fear or shutdown responses.

Rebuilding safety

We’ll focus first on grounding and regulation skills so your body and mind feel safer before we process painful memories.

Understanding root causes

We’ll gently explore how past events, relationships, or chronic stress have shaped current reactions so we can address the source.

Fostering self-compassion

We’ll replace self-blame with care and curiosity, so you can face difficult material without added shame.

Learning coping skills

I teach practical tools, grounding, paced breathing, somatic regulation, and stepwise processing techniques.

Restoring integration

Over time, this work can reduce flashbacks and hypervigilance, improve sleep and relationships, and help you feel more present and in control.

Yes. Online trauma therapy can be very effective when done safely. I prioritize stabilization, check-in protocols, and safe pacing so you feel supported in each session.
